Why this indicator matters
This indicator shows how many foreign travelers choose a country. It lets you compare the tourist appeal of destinations. It is also a good reference for gauging the weight of tourism in an economy.
What makes this indicator vary
The number of visitors depends on climate, heritage, beaches or landscapes, but also on safety and transport prices. Proximity to large tourist-sending countries matters a lot. Health crises, conflicts or complicated visas bring it down.
Reading precautions
It counts arrivals of foreign visitors, not the number of nights or the money spent. Depending on the country, counting methods (borders, accommodation) are not always the same, and a traveler can be counted more than once.
